Detailed Description:
For our March walk we are doing something a little different. We have booked to go to Karakamia, a wildlife sanctuary in a predator-proof enclosure at Chidlow, past Mundaring. The sanctuary houses woylies, tamar wallabies, ring tailed and brush tailed possums and various small animals. The animals are most active around sunset, so the tour starts at 18:00 and finishes around 20:00 by torchlight, but we need to be there between 17:30 and 17:45. At the end of the tour there is tea and coffee and a short talk. If anyone wants to stop for dinner along the way home, it can be arranged on day.

The tour is not run on Sundays, so we are doing it on a Saturday night. Because of the location and the time, we will meet folks using public transport at Guildford Train station at 16:45 on Saturday 15 March. There are only 15 places available so you will need to confirm your attendance to wawanderers@yahoo.com or Ro on 0421 394 623.
Karakamia describes the walk as follows:

The walk follows rocky bush-tracks and takes about 2 hours to complete, with a number of stops along the way. It is followed by a cup of tea and a quick chat. Some hills are encountered along the route and the ground can be slippery. We run walks regardless of the forecast so in inclement weather please be prepared.

Items you may wish to bring include: appropriate footwear and clothing, binoculars and insect repellent (for mosquitoes, ticks and other biting insects). We recommend bringing a small torch as this can be useful for finding your footing along the tracks at night. Please note that only AWC guides are able to spotlight wildlife and carry high powered spotlights with red lenses for this purpose.

Please ensure that you arrive at the visitors centre 15 mins before stated start time so walks can leave promptly. Failure to arrive on time may mean that the walk will not commence so please allow at least an hour from the Perth CBD, more during peak periods. To ensure that we have the appropriate number of guides on for the evening, we ask that you confirm the total number of people (both adults and concessions) in your group at least three working days in advance.

We charge $20 per adult, $15 per concession/child, $60 per family (two adults, two children) and accept cash, VISA, MasterCard and EFTpos. All funds received through our Visitor Program go directly to conserve Australia’s threatened species.
